So Close...Yet So Far from it All!
Inspected and approved by PAII & OBBA
Whether it's the
call of nature, your forthcoming wedding,
a family reunion or just rest and relaxation that brings you to
this website, look no further that this lovely two-bedroom
log cabin located south of Minerva, Ohio, in northern Carroll
County. Canton, with its Pro Football Hall of Fame is exciting
as is the stunning First
Ladies' Library and costumes, beautifully displayed
in the former home of Ida McKinley. Atwood Lake and
several excellent restaurants are within a 30 minute drive.
Built in 1980 by
the King Family, the cabin is fully winterized with gas and woodburning furnaces and AC. It is situated between a deciduous forest
and a pine woods. Over a mile of well-groomed and marked trails take
the walker through middle growth oak, maple, hickory, and beach
trees. And in spring there is a variety of wild flowers. Even in winter Glenking ("glen"
means a small valley in Scottish) is charming with its windowed
wood burner in the living
room, full kitchen and bath with shower. If you want or need
to bring your laptop computer, the nearby Minerva Public Library
provides fast wireless internet service.
In the valley of
this bucolic retreat there is a 3/4 acre pond where swimming and fishing for bluegills and largemouth bass is available.
We have tackle
to lend and will make arrangements for worms if you wish. The pond was dredged a year ago and has been restocked with largemouth bass and bluegills.
There
is also a fireplace outside for those delicious moments when
the hiking is done, the dishes washed and the family gathers 'round
the fire for stories, s'mores and star gazing. The
stars fairly jump out at you here at Glenking because there are
no city or security lights. If you are a serious star student, be
sure to bring your telescope!
A gas grill is available on the front porch.
Glenking is both child and dog-friendly, and our mixed breed dog, Shadow, will enjoy playing with either or both. She loves to hunt and will give your dog (or your child) a good run. Dogs are welcome so long as they stay off the furniture and know where to place their byproducts. If you leave the area we expect you to take your dog with you, and we expect that your dog will have had all his shots and wears flea and tick protection.
Bow hunting is available in season with an Ohio hunting license, but firearms are prohibited at Glenking at all times. Walking in the woods in the fall is quite safe because all of our neighbors know we restrict hunting to bows, (but we encourage our guests to wear orange hats all the same).
Cabin at Glenking now has a 28 inch TV with DirecTV available at no additional charge as well as DVD, video tape deck, and CD player. An FM sound system and a book library brings the delights
of modern convenience to this cabin. It sleeps up to six persons
in two bedrooms and a loft.
We partner
with the Minerva YMCA, and our guests are invited to exercise
at the fully equipped aerobic and strength-training rooms,
and during the summer you may use the Minerva municipal swimming
pool. All of this is at no fee! We believe in daily exercise
and hope you do too.
